I'm going to need some help to really make this successful. But first, here's how it will work: Without risking exposure, kids can come browse and pick up a book to read. When they are done, they return the book. If they really love it, they can even keep the book with the encouragement to bring a book of their own to add to the library. Book donations are accepted—any books people are willing to share. I will still curate the library—keeping the books age-appropriate and high quality reading.
Right now, my inventory is biased heavily toward children's books, 2nd- through 8th-grade. I need to add lots of pictures books for the younger kids, as well as some good books for high-schoolers. How can you help?
If you have books you want to donate, drop them off at my house. If we're not home, there will be a box on the front porch for donations.
If you don't have books but want to contribute, you can chip in to my GoFundMe campaign. Every dollar will be spent on vetted, high-quality, used books for the library. When the public library reopens, all donated books will become part of the rotating inventory of our Little Free Library or will be donated to schools.
I will look through our books and everything the kids don't want, we'll donate (fully wiped down). It will give us something to do this week!
